Chapter 10

‘Jamila…’ Empress called softly, ‘how could you do this to us? Your sisters? To me?’

‘You’re not my sister’ Jamila replied.

‘Where have you taken Lovelace?’

‘Somewhere safe. From you’

‘We both know who she needs to stay safe from’.

Jamila pursed her lips at that, ‘have you ever heard of the spirit element?’

Empress closed her eyes back at that, tell me what I don’t know she thought. She had always thought she had a spirit element. Those who had it were known as The Distinca and they were the rarest on the planet. They had the ability to control more than one of the elements though one who could control all hadn’t been discovered yet, that ability was likened to the spirit hence, the spirit element.

‘Tell me where I went wrong, how did you turn like this?’

Someone called Jamila away before she could answer, and she used that time to think. How does she get out of here? She was unconscious when she was brought here so she didn’t know what the outsides of this room looked like. She flexed her hands against her bonds and it seemed to sip out of them like water.

Empress didn’t ponder on it and proceeded to cut the bonds around her legs. She tried opening the door but it was bound, she pressed her hands to the door and it melted through it. She drew her hand back, then pressed it to it and her hand melted through. She walked through it and came out on the other side, now she had to find Lovelace.

Palec was led by the tracker into a forest and he followed it for some time before he got tired and decided to rest a bit. He gathered some dry sticks and built a fire, then he sat down in front of it to warm himself.

‘How fancy of you to be sitting there so full of yourself’ a voice said.

He looked up to find a hooded figure in black perched on the tree in from of him. He returned his attention to the fire, ‘who are you and what do you want?’

‘You know very well who I am and what I want’ the figure said.

Palec’s eyes caught on the insignia on the figure’s robes and narrowed. ‘Who are you?’

‘You have been going in the wrong direction, go to the Downworld, you’ll find her there’ the figure said and disappeared. He put out the fire and returned in the direction from where he came. A trail miraculously appeared before him that led him straight to Katerina.

Empress checked the rooms next to hers but couldn’t find Lovelace, soon the alarms went off and a voice over the telecom said, ‘room 365 is empty, find the inmate’.

She ran into a corridor where she bumped into Yemi. ‘Prof, what are you doing here?”

‘Rescuing you of course, come with me’ he said and took her hand, he ran with her to the roof of the building which looked a lot like the one she jumped from. His ship materialized in the air and lowered down for them to get in but she hesitated.

‘My sister is still in there’ she said, ‘I have to find her’. When she turned back the security men had reached the roof and was about to open fire.

‘I promise we’ll come back for her now hop in!’ he said and stretched out his hand, she took it as the men opened fire. A bullet caught her in her side before the ship closed and flew away.
